Obituary of Pearl Bennett West

Pearl Bennett West, 91, a long-time Huntsville resident, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at her daughter’s home in College Grove, Tennessee.

Pearl was born June 15, 1928 in Walker County, Alabama and graduated from Curry High School in 1947. She and Bennett “Pat” West were married in 1948 and lived in Mobile and Sylacauga, Alabama, before moving to Huntsville in 1960.

While living in Huntsville, she was a member and past president of the Huntsville Civinette Club and worked 27 years in office administration for Sears. She and Bennett worshiped at the Memorial Parkway Church of Christ (now Chase Park) for nearly 60 years. Her passions in life were helping others and loving her family, who will miss her greatly.

Pearl is survived by her daughter, Mitzi West George (Mike); brother, Arnold Bennett; sisters, Ann Frye (J.W.) and Ruth Bennett Walker (O’Dean); grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Wood, James (Rachel) Hornback, Kenneth Hornback, Ross (Sarah Ellen) Shewmake and Emily (Ryan) Huffines; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin Emmett Bennett and Annie Meeks Bennett; husband, Bennett “Pat” West; daughter, Anita West Hornback; and siblings, Dovie Ashby, Lillian Pulliam, Ruby Pulliam, Dorothy Burgett, Edward Bennett, Eunice Beck, George Bennett, Joy Tubbs and Orby Bennett.

A visitation for Mrs. West will be held Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, from 10 a.m. to noon at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville, with funeral services following at noon. A second visitation will occur Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kilgore Green Funeral Home, 1200 Birmingham Ave, Jasper, Alabama. A graveside service and burial will occur Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Bennett Cemetery in Jasper.

Pallbearers will be Michael Wood, Gabe Wood, Kenneth Hornback, Ryan Huffines, Mike George and Ross Shewmake. Congregational singing will be led by Ryan Huffines, and John Denney will deliver the eulogy.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Agape of Huntsville or the American Cancer Society.
