James Ernest Cox – Obituary

James Ernest Cox, 87, died on March 3, 2019, at Athens Hospital.

He was born on October 23, 1931 in Madison County, Alabama to Ernest and Irene Cox.  He was a boilermaker and he retired from home improvement.  He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War on the USS Washburn, AKA 108, and of the Missouri National Guard.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge, DAV, VFW, and a member of the Chickamauga Cherokee Indian Tribe of Alabama.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by mother of his children, Joyce Nadine Cox and his second wife Mable Garrett Cox; brothers, Cecil, Billy, and Jerry Cox.

Mr. Cox is survived by his children, Terry Cox (Angie), Teresa Hall (Hank), Tina Baldwin (Tony), and Kimberly Ellis (Chuck); grandchildren, Tanya Hall, Courtney Ford, Michael Hall, Adam McKinney, Jessica Chamblin, Katie Ezell, and CJ Ellis; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Corene Cagle; half sisters, Louise Yarbrough and Ernestine Miller; half brothers, Robert Cox, Lewis Cox (Joann), David Cox, and Ronald “Peanut” Cox (Peggy);several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6, 2019, from 6-8 PM at Elkins East Chapel.  Funeral services will be Thursday, March 7, 2019, 1 PM in the chapel with Roger Cox and Randy Carter officiating.  Burial will be at Rice Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Howell, Blake Howell, David Woody, Russel Hawn, Kenny McKinney, CJ Ellis, and Tyler Ezell.
