MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $50,000 grant to support a specialized law enforcement unit’s efforts to combat illegal drugs and drug-related crime in Lawrence County.
The grant is helping the Lawrence County Drug Task Force continue its operations and investigations. The task force, established in 1990, works with local police departments and the county Sheriff’s Department to enforce drug laws and investigate drug-related crimes.
“Illegal drug activity is a threat to our homes and communities,” Bentley said. “I commend the efforts of the Lawrence County Drug Task Force in its pursuit of drug offenders.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide array of programs that support law enforcement and traffic safety, energy conservation, water resource management, economic development and recreation.
Bentley notified Bobby Burch, Lawrence County Commission chairman, that the grant had been approved.
