James Allen Savage – Obituary

James Allen Savage, 91, of Columbia, graduated to glory Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Kittrell Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Born December 20, 1926 and raised in Hampshire, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Olney Farris Savage and the late Evaline Tucker Savage. He was a veteran of World War II including service in occupied Japan. After operating the family farm for many years he became the manager of Haynes Haven Farm and later worked briefly at General Electric in Columbia. Mr. Savage was a member of the churches of Christ and worshipped with the Graymere Church of Christ for the last forty-seven years.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married July 29, 1950, Doris Ann Johnson Savage of Columbia; daughters, Deborah (David) Coffman of Rockledge, Florida; Suzanne (George) Mitchell of Columbia; grandchildren, Dylan Mitchell of Columbia; Dalton Mitchell of Columbia; Matt (Jessica) Coffman of Winter Springs, Florida; Lydia Coffman of Winter Springs, Florida; Mark Coffman of Denver, Colorado; great grandsons, Elijah Coffman; Ethan Coffman; sister, Barbara (Arthur) Hume; sister-in-law, Joyce Savage; nephews, Dwight Savage; Gwynn Savage; David Savage; Stephen Savage; Scott Hume; Andy Hume; and niece, Ann Marie Hume Shivers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Sam Savage; Lewis Wren Savage; and sister, Marjorie Savage.

Active pallbearers will be Dylan Mitchell, Dalton Mitchell, Matt Coffman, Mark Coffman, David Coffman, George Mitchell, and Lydia Coffman. Honorary pallbearers include Sam Worley, Same Jackson Whiteside, Cecil Whiteside, and his niece and nephews.
