Labon Curtis “L.C.” Donahue – Obituary

Labon  Curtis “L.C.” Donahue , age 90, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at his residence in Littleville, Ala. Labon was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Chesterfield County, S.C. He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1939 to 1945. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Laura Ann Smith, of Russellville, Ala. He said he fell in love with Alabama and moved here.

Labon was a retired brick mason, laying brick in Franklin County and many surrounding counties until he was 78 years old. He was a member of Quinn Memorial Church of Christ. Labon was a great cook and many will remember him for the delicious cakes he would bake and give away to his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Laura “Polly” Donahue; parents, John and Bessie Donahue; sisters, Lucille Alexander, Alice Donahue, Alma Donahue; brothers, Ebby Donahue, Ray Donahue; son-in-law, Stephen Wells.

He leaves to cherish his memory six daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne (Danny) Kenney, Cherokee, Ala., Donna (Phil) Hardin, Spruce Pine, Ala., Kay Wells (Dixon) Livingston, Russellville, Ala., Patti (Stephen) Bendall, Russellville, Ala., Pam (Bucky) Rea, Littleville, Ala., Candace (Dennison) Bretherick, Florence, Ala.; grandchildren, Kyme Smith, Shannon Kikta, Saundra (Steve) Guthrie, Kristi (Ronnie) Rose, Scott Hardin, Eric (Shaunna) Wells, Heather (Kraig) Kiel, Brianne Bendall, Paige (Heath) Smith, Laura Hill, Ashley (Steven) Flippo, Jaden Bretherick, Katlin Bretherick; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several very special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, Sep. 1, 2012, from 1-2 p.m. at Akins Funeral Home, Russellville. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sep. 1, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Brother Jackie Richardson and Brother Lonnie Oldag officiating. Burial will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Rose, Justin Rose, Eric Wells, Matt Foster, Steven Flippo and Colt Hester. Honorary pallbearers will be sons-in-law and best friend and nephew, Ray Alexander.
