SHEFFIELD– The Muscle Shoals Music Foundation has opened 3614 Jackson Highway to the public the last four weekends and more than 1400 people have visited the iconic studio during that time. MSMF Chairman Rodney Hall said the
turnout has been “amazing” and he is grateful to the Muscle Shoals music fans who have participated. “We have had visitors from throughout the United States and abroad,” said Hall. “Countries represented on our sign-in book include England, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands and Canada.”
The foundation decided to open the studio to allow fans to see it before the BEATS refurbishment begins. BEATS executives Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine decided after seeing the Muscle Shoals documentary that they wanted to reestablish 3614 Jackson Highway as a working studio. They have
developed a lease agreement with the foundation and are working on plans for the restoration, which is expected to begin soon.
“The overwhelming response to our tours has shown us how important it is to have the studio open prior to construction so that visitors can see it before and after the transformation,” said Hall. Swamper bassist David Hood said he is “very pleased” to see the BEATS partnership developing. “I am also glad that the studio is open to visitors because it is a vital part of Muscle Shoals music history.” The studio will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. until construction begins.
