It is a familiar sound. The clock counts the seconds. One 24 hour day when everything basically is turned upside down. There is a threat to America and one person has to stop that threat. First it was Jack Bauer. Bauer protected the United States through eight seasons on Fox. 24 was one of the highest rated television shows on TV. It was different from other television shows because “events happen in real time” as we were told each week by Kiefer Sutherland.
Recently Fox released a new 24. It is called 24: Legacy. There is no Jack Bauer this time. The original reviews I read stated that this 24 happens after the previous 24 and is a stand-alone program. There was not to be any similarity between the two shows. More on that in a bit. 24: Legacy recently ended its first season on Fox. I purchased the entire season from Amazon Video and have just completed it.
The lead character this time is Corey Hawkins as Eric Carter. Carter is a former member of a Special Forces Team that took out a well-known terrorist. Carter is out of the military and lives with his wife, Nicole, portrayed by Anna Diop. Nicole is a nurse at a local hospital. Nicole and Eric both came from drug related backgrounds, which Eric’s brother, Issac is still part of.
Members of Eric’s Team begin to be killed by the terrorist group for which they killed its leader. When Eric and Nicole are attacked, they fight back, killing the terrorist. Eric decides to place to put Nicole somewhere safe while he helps to stop the terrorists. Eric takes her to his brother’s drug house for safe keeping. There is tension and history between the two brothers but Issac agrees to keep Nicole safe.
I don’t want to give away the rest of the plot but I can tell you that it goes wild from there. At one part, the drug dealers decide to take on the terrorist which was different. Jimmy Smits stars as Senator John Donovan and Miranda Otto stars as his wife Rebecca Ingram. Rebecca is the out-going Director of CTU (Counter Terrorism Unit). Teddy Sears stars as the new Head of CTU, Keith Mullins.
Now back to what I said about this series having nothing to do with the previous series. That was what I originally read. However, returning cast members Chole O’Brien and Tony Almeda are part of this series. Is this 24 as good as the previous 24? I think I was expecting too much from it because I was expecting Jack Bauer to show up. I did enjoy 24: Legacy and would suggest you watch it. It is available on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video and soon to be released DVD.
24:Legacy has been renewed for a second series.
