TUSCUMBIA  – The 22nd Annual North Alabama African Heritage Festival will be held Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Willie Green Recreation Center. The recreation center is located at 609 South East Street, Tuscumbia, Alabama, 35674.

There will be a Cultural Lecture Series with Dr. Deborah Carter, ND, in the center’s dining hall beginning at 12 noon on Friday. Immediately following the lecture, there will be a demonstration of handmade “old school toys” that children enjoyed in the days before electronic games and cell phones. Please feel free to join the fun and bring some of your own toys to share with the children. Music will begin on the lawn at 5 pm with the Come Up Band from Decatur, Alabama, followed by legendary blues man King Tuck. Please bring your own chair for activities on the lawn.

Saturday festivities will begin at 11 am with a gospel explosion. Musical guests will include Rev. Chris Neloms, Rev. Shane Rainer, the Garner Brothers, and the world renowned Orr Sisters. The always favorite Uhuru Dancers from Atlanta, Georgia, will take the stage at 2:30 pm followed by the Exodus Reggae Band from Memphis,

Tennessee. Blues man King Tut will play once again before the final act. Closing out the festival will be the Shoals’ very own favorite – the Midnighters.

Many vendors will be onsite with cultural and traditional food, clothing, and other items. A children’s area will provide games as well as fun for the whole family. Don’t forget to bring a chair to the festival. Due to safety precautions, no off road vehicles will be allowed on festival grounds.
