FLORENCE-The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area held an open house and ribbon cutting at The Governor’s House on the campus of UNA located at 468 North Court Street on Thursday, December 11th. The MSNHA promotes cultural tourism in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale , Lawrence, Limestone and Morgan counties.
Here is what The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area has to say:
“The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area promotes cultural tourism in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone and Morgan counties through education, preservation and conservation of northwest Alabama’s heritage and culture. It is the only National
Heritage Area in Alabama. With the University of North Alabama
as its fiduciary, MSNHA helps develop and interpret visitor-ready
sites, create living history experiences and chronicle the evolution
of the area’s landscape for the largest audience possible.
In addition, MSNHA works with the UNA Public History Center to
help graduate students gain hands-on experience in preservation
and interpretation. Among other projects, the MSNHA has worked
with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to establish the
Roots of American Music Trail. The Department of Interior and the
National Park Service founded the National Heritage Program to
recognize regions with significant historical, cultural or natural
features that help tell America’s story. National Heritage Areas are
designated by Congress and must meet strict requirements.”
The Shoals Chamber was on hand to welcome MSHA and to record the event in photos. The Quad Cities Daily presents them to you here:
