Virginia Hall Smith, 71, of Orange Beach, died September 27, 2014, at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born March 11, 1943, in Andalusia to William Garnol and Wilma Proctor Hall. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama where she also received a master’s degree.
Mrs. Smith spent most of her career working with and advocating for people with disabilities as director for the Center for the Developmentally Disabled and at Calhoun Community College. After retirement, Mrs. Smith was active in missions, taking three trips to Ecuador and becoming Director of the Manna Center at First Baptist Church in Gulf Shores.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Martin Smith; her children, Jennifer Smith White (Tony) of Florence and Robert Martin Smith Jr. (Heather) of Madison; four grandchildren, Hannah and Marshall Wright, Brigit and Kaitie Smith; and a sister, Joan Hall Bomar, of Fort Walton Beach, FL.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Gulf Shores.
Her funeral will be in Decatur at Central Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 2. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the Encouragers Sunday school class of Central Baptist Church, Decatur.
