sue ayresobitSue Ayers, 80, of Summertown, TN, died peacefully Wednesday night, April 23, 2014, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. She was the daughter of the late J.S. and Lula Smith Woodlee of McMinnville, TN. She attended McMinnville Elementary School and Dibrell High School. She was a member of Bybee’s Springs Church of Christ in McMinnville before moving to Lawrence County.

She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was married to the late Bobby Everett Ayers, and they raised four daughters together. She worked at home and on the farm caring for her family until her daughters were grown. She had a tender spot for children and the elderly and worked at Kiddie Cottage Day Care in Mt. Pleasant, TN and Ms. Bobbie’s Day Care in Summertown, TN. She then worked as a nurses’ aide at Countryside Nursing Home, Hidden Acres, and NHC of Lawrenceburg, TN where she also took on the job as Activities Director. Her tenderness and affection made her a favorite of the residents. She took care of her ailing mother-in-law and then her mother until their deaths.

She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Summertown Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for 2 and 3 year olds for 40 years Mrs. Sue influenced the lives of several generations of children. She was well loved and is still known in the Summertown Community and beyond as Mrs. Sue.

She is survived by daughters, Janice Smith of Cullman, AL, Linda (Danny) Lasater and April (Tim) McCormack both of Columbia, TN, and Alice (Randy) Pope of Summertown, TN. She was MawMaw to six grandchildren, David Smith and Harley Pope both of Summertown, TN, Deena McClendon of Cullman, AL, Julie Bergman of Miami, FL, Seth Lasater of Spring Hill, TN, and Courtney Nutt of Waynesboro, TN; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Active pallbearers will be David Smith, Seth Lasater, Harley Pope, Lance Nutt, Briar Pierce and Roy Ayers.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 27, 2014, with Ricky Glass and Brian Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at Brace Cemetery in Lawrence County, TN. Family suggests memorials be made to the Sunday school program at Summertown Church of Christ or Brace Cemetery fund.
