MONTGOMERY – A single Alabama health care provider was shipped potentially contaminated injectable steroid product from a compounding manufacturer, Main Street Family Pharmacy of Newbern, Tenn.
The Alabama Department of Public Health has informed the provider, who is notifying all individuals who have been administered the product
to alert them to any signs and symptoms of complications. The clinic received the formulation of methylprednisolone acetate (MPA), a preservative-free steroid product, associated with the investigation. MPA is typically used for reducing inflammation.
At this time, there are no known adverse impacts reported in the state of Alabama.
The Alabama investigation began May 24 after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was notified of persons who developed complications after administration of the injectable steroid product. Main Street Family Pharmacy issued a voluntary recall of all sterile products.
