autumn point apartments MG_7030SHEFFIELD – According to police, James Allen Gray III, was accidentally shot in his home at the Autumn Pointe Apartments Tuesday afternoon.  Huntsville Hospital reports that Gray remains in critical condition.

Apparently Gray was in an adjacent apartment to Tad Kennedy Waddell; who at the time was unloading his gun.

According to the police report, Wadell had removed the ammunition magazine from his pistol to clean the weapon. Not realizing that there was a round in the chamber, he then pulled back the slide and released it. The pistol fired.

The bullet went through a common wall between apartments and hit Gray; the wound was through and through, entering just below the chest and exiting through his back. When emergency responders arrived, Gray was found in the middle of the living room in his home.

Gray was taken by ambulance to Helen Keller Hospital, and from there he was flown by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital, where he remains.

No arrests have been made at this time, however the investigation is continuing.
