Did you know that the average house is responsible for a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions? That’s because every time you flip on a light switch, run the dishwasher or turn on your air conditioner; you use energy, which means more greenhouse gas emissions from power plants whose initial energy source is coal. The more energy we can help you save through energy efficiency, the more we all help to reduce greenhouse gases and the risks of global climate change. And just as important, the demands on your pocket book are reduced.

There are a lot of folks out there that are confused about how and what an energy star rated window can do for them.

Well I am going to tell you!

Products that earn the ENERGY STAR qualified logo use less energy and prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy By increasing the window’s insulating properties and efficiency, you can lower energy demands for your household. ENERGY STAR products not only protect the environment, they help save you money.

During the manufacturing process of the glass for your Energy Star-rated window it is coated with Low E. Low E glass coatings work by reflecting or absorbing IR light (heat energy). The thickness of the Low E coating and the position in the window dictate how the window will perform.

energystarAlso, Energy Star-rated windows use a spacer system between two panes of glass. In-between those panes; argon gas is pumped and sealed. Argon is an inert, nontoxic gas used for insulating glass units to reduce heat transfer.

The combination of the Low E coating and the Argon gas make for a decrease in energy use while heating and cooling the home, sometimes up to 30%.

The typical household spends $1,900/year on energy bills. With ENERGY STAR products, you can save on your utility bills. The exact savings depends on several factors such as:

•What are your existing windows made of?

•Are the walls of the home well insulated?

•Is there shade around your home?

•Is the ceiling adequately insulated?

•What climate are you in?
