The United Way Of Northwest Alabama is moving to One Mobile Place in Downtown Florence after being forced out of The Brandon Ministry Center. Even though the move comes right in the middle of holiday season, United Way staff say they are excited to be relocating.
United Way Campaign Manager Karen Grubbs said there will be a little sadness when the move is completed at the end of December, but new opportunities override the sadness they feel for leaving their home in East Florence of over five years. Grubbs told The Quad-Cities Daily that being located in Downtown will give the organization a bigger presence in the area. Their old offices in the former Brandon Elementary School had a lot of room, but it is not an easy to find location. She said that along with the increased visibility of a downtown location, there will be more community involvement in activities such as First Fridays and holiday events.
Staff is packing up their offices for the move this week and plan to begin the relocation process next Monday after the Thanksgiving weekend.
All of the many agencies that are located at Brandon Ministry Center are being moved out because their umbrella organization, The Shoals Family Success Center had their rent increased. The Success Center, due to the poor economy and dwindling government funds, simply could not afford the increase when the numbers of the people they serve are growing so fast.
