DECATUR-For those in search of things to do on Independence Day, Point Mallard Park invites locals and visitors for a day of family fun and activities at the Point Mallard Water Park and Spirit of America Festival. Set for July 4, 2023, the Spirit of America Festival offers star-spangled fun, food, craft vendors, a bike parade and a spectacular firework show in honor of Independence Day. The festivities get underway at 3 p.m. and families are invited to arrive earlier to enjoy the day cooling off at the Point Mallard Water Park.

The Spirit of America Field opens to guests at 3 p.m. so that families can pick out a prime viewing location to enjoy the fireworks show set for later in the evening. The free Independence Day celebration kicks off at 3:30 p.m. with the Children’s Bike Parade where patriotic decorated bikes, tricycles, wagons and strollers make their way around the Spirit of America field (soccer fields). Registration for the parade is free and is required beginning at 3 p.m. at TC Almon. A children’s area and food and craft vendors, hosted by Kiwanis Club of Decatur, will be available from 4 to 10 p.m. in the Expo Pavilion and surrounding areas so children can play, and adults may shop for unique items and indulge on traditional festival food.

Families can arrive before the festival gets underway and cool off at the Point Mallard Water Park. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 4th, the water park offers a kiddy pool area, pro bowl slide, sky pond, lazy river, flume slides and a wave pool. Admission is $28 for adults (12-61), $23 for children (ages 3-11) and seniors (62+), and free for children 2 years old and younger. Following a fun-filled day in the water park, guests can walk over to the Spirit of America field to enjoy the festivities and fireworks.

Beginning at 9 p.m., the night sky illuminates with a spectacular fireworks display. The fireworks display will be choreographed to music simulcast by WDRM, and spectators outside of Point Mallard Park are encouraged to tune in to 102.1 FM to enjoy.

Guests are asked to please leave pets at home, and tents and golf carts are not allowed on the Spirit of America field. Handicap parking will be available in the TC Almon parking lot and vendor and VIP event sponsor parking will be along the side of the soccer fields.
