Laura Grimes Oswell, 88, passed away Wednesday. She was born in Fairfield, AL to Thomas Jackson Grimes, Sr. and Lillian Smith Grimes.
Following graduation from Bessemer High School, Laura met the love of her life, Herman Oswell, and they were married a year later in 1954. They raised four children.
A member of Whitesburg Baptist Church since 1966, she served in the nursery and at Mother’s Day Out for many years. Laura loved sports, especially watching her grandchildren or any Auburn team play.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Thomas Jackson Grimes, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Herman Oswell; daughter, Julie Chandler (Mack); sons, David Oswell (Melissa), Bill Oswell (Linda), and Jim Oswell (Julie); 10 grandchildren and their spouses; seven great-grandchildren; brother, John Russell Grimes; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held.
