Charles Edward Hornsby Charles Edward Hornsby, 86, of Boaz passed away March 25th at his home. Charles was born in Albertville to Vertis B. Hornsby and Willie J. Hornsby. Charles joined the Navy when he was 16 and turned 17 while in boot camp. He did what was referred to as a “Kiddie Cruise” and was out at age 21. He met and married his forever love Edna Sasnett April 22, 1956. In 1957 he joined the Air Force. Little did he know this would be the beginning of a career that would take him, his wife and all their girls to places most people dream of. He served 29 years in the Air Force where he retired then worked Civil Service teaching at Sheppard Air Force base 20 additional years. After retirement he moved back home to Alabama. He enjoyed traveling, running his upholstery shop, being outdoors, working in the yard and in his shop always tinkering with something. He lived with such a spirit of adventure and accomplishment, touching so many lives.
Survived by his wife Edna Hornsby and daughters Annette Tracy and husband Duane Tracy, Deborah Huff, Connie Moore, Rebecca Weary and husband Tony Weary, Connie Sherwood and his son David Hornsby; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by sisters Stella Stansell, Barbara Williams and Husband Joe Taylor Williams, Hilda James and husband Ray James; son in law’s Michael Huff and Daniel Moore; nieces Kim Greene and Hilda Jean Wise.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for all the love and care they have received; you will all remain in our hearts.
Graveside service will be held Thursday March 30th at Pleasant Hill Cemetery # 1 at 2:00 pm with his son in law, Duane Tracy to officiate. Pallbearers will be his family and friends.
