The Funeral Service for Maurice Herman Drummond will be 12 Noon, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the Cullman Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am to 12 Noon prior to the service. Rev. Steve Rodgers, Rev. Morris Helton and Rev. John Garrison will officiate the serve. The interment will be in the Shelton Grove Cemetery. The family request in Lieu of flowers that donations be made to your favorite charity.

Maurice Herman Drummond, 86, one week away from 87 years old, left this walk of life on March 19, 2023, at 12 mid-night to take “That Heavenly Flight.” Born in Cullman County to Herman Hubert Drummond and Vernell McClintock Drummond on March 26, 1936.
His first job was in Gary, Indiana, at the age of 16, decorating the windows of a large department store which led to his job with Sears Roebuck in Birmingham, Alabama for several years. Decorating was one of his talents which he used in helping with parades and other civic activities in Birmingham. Maurice worked in the steel mills in Gary, Indiana. Also, after his younger days on the farm in the Shelton Grove area, helping to grow vegetables, he and his Dad worked at their own individual markets selling produce. Maurice had several other jobs in Birmingham which he didn’t enjoy. Later he was employed by the Alabama Department of Transportation which included working at the new rest area which is now the “Guy Hunt Rest Area” and with the weight enforcement crew which he enjoyed very much and earned the nickname “Gabby” which tells you of his love to talk to people. He never met a stranger or ran out of something to say – his church family can testify to that. He loved to help people and he loved his church family wherever he might be. He worked tirelessly to help restore Sandlin Chapel Church. He also served his country in the U.S. Army for two years, 1961-1963.
Maurice came back to Cullman in 1983 to live and married his first-grade sweetheart, Carolyn Baker. They enjoyed going to the mountains and to the beach where they attended civic organizational meetings and making new friends across the state in 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; sister, Shirley Via of Waveland, In; son, Todd Maurice (Nellie) Drummond of Indiana Ridge, In; grandson, Tracy of Indiana; grandsons, Chris (Heather) and Daniel of Talbott, Indiana; two great-granddaughters, Brianna and Kensley of Indiana; special nephew, Tim (Stacia) Via of Versailles, Ky; niece, Julie Santana of Indiana; 4 step-children, William (Cheryl) Corbin of Pelham, AL; Martha (Larry) Whaley of Morris, AL; Maria and Donna Corbin of Cullman; four step-grandchildren, Alaina (Brandon) Kolulak of Orlando, Fl, Chris Corbin, Jessica (Chris) Jeter, of Mt. Olive and Noel (Mike) Alexander, of Virginia; four great great-grandchildren, Braelyn, Parker, Felix and Corbin.
Mr. Drummond was preceded in death by his parents; infant sons, Anthony and David Lee Drummond; brother-in-law, David Via; nephew, Dewayne Via; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William A and Dovie Thomas Baker.
