Clarence C. “Ted” Fountain, Jr., 96, died peacefully on March 11, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Ted was born on November 3, 1926 and grew up in Brewton, AL enjoying a happy childhood in the small southern town where his father served as Mayor for many years. He attended T. R. Miller High School where he was a member of the football team and also played trumpet in the Tiger’s marching band. Upon high school graduation, Ted immediately enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 at the age of 17 and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II until the war ended in 1945.

After his naval service concluded in 1946, Ted attended the University of Alabama where he studied business and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, serving as its Commander in 1949.

Ted and Martha Ann Dickerson were married in Andalusia, AL in 1951 which began a holy and joyous union, everlasting, for more than 71 years.

The family moved to Huntsville in 1960 where Ted began a career in insurance and real estate that spanned the next 40 years. He worked for many years with G.W. Jones & Sons before becoming a founder of Fountain, Parker, Harbarger & Associates in 1990. He was a leader in the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents (AIIA) Association and was selected Insurer of the Year for the state of Alabama in 1988.

Ted was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church for 61 years serving as a parish leader and in many other capacities at his beloved church. His community and civic involvement ranged from being a Life Member and past President of the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville to coaching a Blossomwood neighborhood Little League baseball team for over a decade.

Through his business career, church life, and good works in the community, Ted had many cherished friends and neighbors. He will be remembered by them for his friendly smile and positive outlook on life expressed by his unfailing offering of encouraging words for all.

Ted was preceded in death by his father, C.C. “Ted” Fountain, Sr., his mother, Esther Fountain, sister, Caroline Sowell, and his grandson, Kevin Whitaker.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Dickerson Fountain; sons, C.C. “Ted” Fountain, III (Leah) and Leon D. “Dick” Fountain; grandchildren, Will Fountain (Alana), Missy Congo, Anna Leigh Rowe (Zach), and Olivia Fountain; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Congo, Addison Congo, Lexia Garrett, Jaden Garrett, and Carter “Maverick” Fountain.

Ted and his family would like to offer special thanks to his longtime physician, Dr. Chris Russell, his compassionate caregiver, Bridgette Lewis, and the caring nursing staff at Huntsville Hospital’s Hospice Family Care in-patient facility.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 12:00 noon at First United Methodist Church followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. The burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Alabama or a favorite local charity.
