On Friday, February 3, 2023, Michael David Theodoss left his suffering behind to enter the kingdom of God. Michael was a loving husband to Kay, and the proud father of Benjamin. He also leaves behind his mother, Margaret; sister, Victoria; brother, Sam (Jill); mother-in-law, Young-Ja Kim; brothers-in-law, Steve and John; and nieces and nephews, Steven, Alexandra, Ariana, Zac, and Story. He was preceded in death by his father, George.

Michael was born on November 9, 1965, the day of the Great Northeast Blackout. He was the light that shined that dark night, and he carried that light throughout his life.

After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, he was commissioned into the United States Army. During his 28 years of service, he traveled to places as far as Korea, Bosnia, and Afghanistan and as close as White Sands Missile Range, Fort Belvoir, and Redstone Arsenal, to name a few. Culminating his career as a Colonel, serving as the Deputy Director Ground-Based Missile Defense, Missile Defense Agency.

Michael was assigned to the Intelligence and Security Command, Fort Belvoir. Although his future wife, Kay, worked at this same command, they actually met playing co-ed softball in the Fairfax County league. He hit a home run and she was smitten with him ever since. Surrounded by family and friends, they were married at the Fort Belvoir Chapel 22 years ago, this June.

His pride and joy is his son, Benjamin. The moment Benjamin was born, Michael’s light shined more brightly, setting an example for Benjamin. They shared a special bond in Scouting with the many adventures in Pack 343 and Troop 343. The most cherished moments were hiking up to Baldy at Philmont together and watching Benjamin become an Eagle Scout.

Michael spent many hours volunteering with Troop 343, mentoring young men of tomorrow to advance through their scout ranks to Eagle. When he was not spending time with the troop, he was volunteering at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, as a chanter and Church Board Member.

Family and friends will miss him. His light will shine forever in those he encountered throughout his life. May his memory be eternal.

Visitation will be at the Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave, Huntsville, on Thursday, February 9, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., with a short prayer service and eulogy to immediately follow. The funeral service will be Friday, February 10, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church located at 3021 University Drive, Huntsville. A graveside service and military honors will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family kindly asks for donations to be made to the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Huntsville, AL, or Still Serving Veterans, Give in Honor or Memory | Still Serving Veterans Services (ssv.org).
