Falkville Man Charged With Murder In Sunday Night Shooting

FALKVILLE-The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department issued a press release regarding a Sunday night shooting.  The suspect, Joshua Lamar Knighten, 35 has been charged with murder in the shooting of one person another person was shot and flown to Huntsville Hospital with injuries. Knighten remains in the Morgan County Jail with no bond.

According to an official with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the man who was shot and killed has been identified as Mitchell Beard, 62.  The suspect (Knighten) was booked into the Morgan County Jail without bond.
Morgan County Sheriff’s Department Statement:
“Investigators have arrested an individual in relation to last night’s shooting on Goodwin Rd near Falkville.
Investigators arrested JOSHUA LAMAR KNIGHTEN, 35 of Falkville. He is charged with 13A-5-40(a)(17) – Homicide-Capital Murder.
He was transported to and booked in the Morgan County Jail. No bond.
The subject was detained at the scene when deputies responded to a shooting call in the 50 block of Goodwin Dr.
Once on scene, deputies located 1 deceased individual, identified as Mitchell Ray Beard, 62 of Falkville and one suffering from a gunshot wound.
A third victim with a gunshot wound left prior to Deputy’s arrival. This individual arrived at the Falkville Town Hall. Both victims were treated by EMS and transported to Huntsville Hospital by Air Evac.
At the scene, deputies detained two individuals, Knighton, who was arrested, and a second subject who was questioned and released.
