Rayceil Sanderson  Rayceil Sanderson passed away February 2nd, 2023. She was a resident of Madison, AL. Mrs. Sanderson was born on November 23rd, 1926, to James Lorel Whitworth and Gertrude Counts Whitworth in Lawrence County, Alabama in the community of Mt. Hope.

She began her teaching career in 1949 as a high school home economics teacher. In her later years she moved to Elementary Education and remained there until she retired from Madison County School System in 1990. She touched many lives during those years. She was an active member of the Madison United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she served on the various committees including United Methodist Women and was a member of the Ladies Friendship Sunday School Class. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She always looked forward to holidays when her family would all be together. She looked forward to her weekly card games with her group of friends. She also enjoyed monthly outings to go to breakfast or lunch with the Skyline group or the Retirees from school and she loved and welcomed friends, neighbors, and family any time for a visit.

Mrs. Sanderson is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bryant Allen Sanderson, and daughter Mary Catherine Singh.

Mrs. Sanderson is survived by her sons, James Allen Sanderson (Cindi) of Madison, Shelby Ray Sanderson (Shirley) of Athens; seven grandchildren Zac Singh, Rachel Bailey, Adam Sanderson, Mollie Carter, Christopher Sanderson, Matthew Sanderson, and Adam Smith; three great grandchildren, several cousins, and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sanderson will be on Monday, February 6th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. The visitation will be Monday from 12:00 p.m.-1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Athens City Cemetery.
