Vannie B. Melton, age 80 of Elora, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Huntland on June 23, 1942, to the late Robert Burford and Vicie A. (Green) Watson. She had worked as an office manager for Lakeride Medical Center while living in Illinois and had retired from Home Health Center in Fayetteville. Vannie enjoyed cheering for the Atlanta Braves and her favorite race car driver (her nephew), Jerry Ashley. Those who knew and loved her will remember her charismatic personality. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Melton; siblings, Douglas Watson, Clyde “Rut” Watson, and Charles Watson. Vannie is survived by her loving son, Terry (Pam) Melton of Atlanta, Georgia; step-daughters, Sonya Melton of Pensacola, Florida, and Tonya Melton (James) Blair of Panama City, Florida; grandchildren, Caroline Melton of Atlanta, Georgia, John Terrell Melton of Atlanta, Georgia, Jamison Blair of Panama City, Florida, and Brodie Blair of Panama City, Florida; siblings, Marie Stovall of Jackson, Georgia, Margaret Ashley of Elora, and Eula Moorehead of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. Mike Robertson and Rev. Charles Houston officiating. Interment will follow at Green Cemetery with Jerry Ashley, Jarrett “Peanut” Ashley, Tyler Smith, Kaleob Ashley, Robert Morgan, and Jeff Arnold serving as pallbearers.
