Colleen Howell, 83, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on 11 January 2023 after a brief battle with cancer.
Colleen was born on 12 October 1939 to John Felton Scarbrough and Sadie Mathews Scarbrough at Walter Reed Hospital in the District of Columbia. Colleen graduated from Fort Valley High School.
Colleen completed cosmetology school in Daytona Beach, Florida and worked as a cosmetologist for several years. She then moved to Warner Robins, Georgia where she worked as a clerk typist at a manufacturing facility and later as an administrative assistant on Warner Robins Air Force Base. Due to health issues, Colleen medically retired as a civilian from the Air Force and moved to Saint Simons Island, Georgia where she lived until the passing of her mother in 2007, at which point she moved to Huntsville, Alabama.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, John Felton Scarbrough and Sadie Mathews Scarbrough, her brother, D. Ellis Scarbrough, and husbands, Bill Weldon and Sewell Howell. She is survived by sons, Neal Edwards (Kati) and Eric Edwards (Jennifer); granddaughters, Mindy Edwards and Annsley Edwards; grandsons, Austin Edwards, Carson Edwards and Daniel Mann; brother, Charles Scarbrough; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fort Valley, Georgia at a date and time to be determined by the family.
