SHEFFIELD-The Ritz Theatre is hosting a one-night-only screening of Moonage Daydream—a “cinematic odyssey” exploring David Bowie’s creative and musical journey—on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at tennesseevalleyarts.org or by calling 256-383-0533.

Part documentary and part concert film, Moonage Daydream has only been shown in select theaters. It is being screened at The Ritz through special permission, says Christi Britten, executive director of the Tennessee Valley Art association, which operates The Ritz.

“When we saw this amazing documentary released in major cities around us, we decided to reach out to see if there was a chance to bring it to the Shoals for a one-day event that celebrated the unique impact of David Bowie,” says Britten. “NEON, the film’s production company, was so supportive and glad to help us bring it to our community.”

With Moonage Daydream, director Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture, Kurt Cobain:

Montage of Heck, Jane) presents a genre-defying immersion into the art and sounds of David Bowie. Considered one of the greatest artists of our time, David Bowie has been moving culture for over 50 years.

Moonage Daydream is the first film to be supported by the David Bowie Estate. In 2018, Morgen was granted unprecedented access to Bowie’s archives, including an extensive catalog of unseen footage and the personal collection of his own art and poetry. Morgen spent four years assembling the film and another 18 months designing the soundscape, animations, and color palette.

The film invites audiences to immerse themselves in the unique world that is “Bowie,” using sublime kaleidoscopic imagery, personal archived footage, and unseen performances, and anchored by David Bowie’s own music and words.

This one-time screening offers the chance to watch the film on the big screen of the historic, intimate Ritz Theatre, which first opened in 1927 as a movie house. Attendees are invited to dress in their Bowie best as they celebrate the musical legend.

Concessions will be available, including popcorn, wine, beer, soda, water, candy,. Seating is general admission.
