James “Jim” Bruce Peck – Obituary

Funeral service for James “Jim” Bruce Peck, 82, of Decatur, AL will be Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sherry Harris and Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL. Visitation will be Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Peck died on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Riverside Assisted Living in Decautr, AL. He was born July 15, 1930, in Bessemer, AL to Elliot Henry Peck and Flossye Chastain Peck. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Elliot H., Jr. and his wife Joyce Peck and his wife of 61 years, Jane R. Peck. Jim was active in the Boy Scouts of America achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and continuing in adulthood. He assisted in establishing Cub Scout Pack 244 at Woodmeade School. He was a graduate of Bessemer High School, and the University of Alabama, in 1953, with an engineering degree. He was a Korean War veteran, serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was employed with Wolverine Tube in Decatur for seven years and then NASA for over 30 years. He was a charter member of the Jonesboro Civitan Club and a member of the Decatur Civitans for several years.

As a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, he was a member of Jonesboro Methodist, in Bessemer, and Central United Methodist and Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church’s in Decatur, serving over 20 years as a Sunday School Teacher.

Survivors include

Two Sons: James B. Peck, Jr., (Sherry) and Stephen Alan Peck, (Nikita)

One Daughter: Donna Peck

5 Grandchildren

3 Great Grandchildren

Pallbearers will be Brad Peck, Braxton Peck, Nick Peck, Randy Cavnar, Jarrod Alldredge, Dennis Kemp. Edward Baird Bobby Peck
