Eddie Rogers Myrick – Obituary

EddieEddie Rogers Myrick passed from this life on March 1, 2013. He died peacefully at home. He was the son of Glen Ed and Hilda Hardin Myrick. He was born in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. His family also lived in Florence, Ala. for some years of his childhood.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Glen Myrick; stepdaughter, Sarah Catherine Crews.

He is survived by his wife, June Thomas Myrick; son, Flynt Rogers Myrick; stepsons, Seth (Amber) Crews, Eric (Ann) Crews; grandsons, Jackson and Gavin Crews.; sister, Rosemary Myrick Webb; sister-in-law, Margaret Myrick; special cousin, Cissy Moss; several nieces; and nephews.

Eddie graduated from Lawrence County High School where he was a star football player. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp, 1956-1957. He was honorably discharged due to the re-injury of his wrist which he had broken playing high school football. He loved his time in the Marine Corp and was honored to serve his country.

He graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, 1961. He received his Master’s Degree, 1965, and in 1974, he received his EDS in Administration and Supervision. He was a teacher at Deshler High School, 1962-65. He served as Assistant Principal, Deshler High School, 1965-66. He was principal. Southside Elementary School, Tuscumbia City Schools, 1966-67, principal, Blake Elementary School, 1967-92, principal, Blake Elementary/Southeast Elementary Schools, 1992-93. He was Coordinator, Federal Programs, Sheffield City Schools, from 1993 until his retirement.

Eddie was known for his wonderful pies, cookies and Mexican cornbread. As an elementary principal, he was known for his fairness and honesty toward his students and parents. Underneath his “tough” exterior was a heart of gold.

Eddie grew up in First United Methodist Church, Lawrenceburg. He recently attended First United Methodist Church, Florence. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hospice of the Shoals.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. at Greenview Funeral Home.

Eddie is enjoying the joy of a new body, the presence of his Savior and the reunion with his loved one who had gone before him. We look forward to seeing him again.
