Michael Ray Mashburn, II, age 40, received his new body in Christ on Friday, December 02, 2022, in the comfort of his home. Michael started his three decade long war with cancer in 1989, when he was diagnosed with Leukemia just days after his 7th birthday. God blessed Michael with a loving family and medical staff who supported him during the battle. After a hard battle, Michael prevailed and was able to enter a peace time in remission. However, in 1993, at the age of 11 years old, the second battle with cancer started. On January 14, 1994, Michael received a bone marrow transplant, with the blessing from God and his sister. Michael joked for years of his sister being his “spare parts,” as she was his “perfect genetic match.” Peace time then lasted for 17 years, during which time God was still working incredible good out of the incredible tragedy. Michael’s mother was able to become a nurse and helped many through God’s name. Michael participated in raising money for Relay-For-Life, St. Jude, and Bike-A-Thon. He would also write inspirational articles to uplift others.
Michael was able to complete high school where he met the love of his life in 2002. Michael and April married in 2005 and spent the last 20 years not taking a moment for granted. They loved, shared, forgave, and as Michael said “She put up with me.” Michael lived life fully by devoting time in church, and spending time studying God’s word. He was a member of Pulaski Street Church of Christ
Michael enjoyed many things in life. He had a love for fast cars and could be found at the race track. He loved to daydream about racing his mustang and how to make it go faster. He was a member of the Mustang Club. He loved to get into shenanigans with his brothers and friends, you all know who you are and have many stories to tell. Christmas time was his favorite time of the year, and he would start his Christmas list at the beginning of each year following the prior holiday. The Tennessee Titans could be found on his TV anytime they were playing, and he shared his love of the game with all his family and friends. Michael also had a love for cooking and grilling, even when he couldn’t enjoy them himself.
Michael’s third and last battle started in 2011. Michael did not ever believe he should stop fighting, so he continued his fight. Michael fought the great fight for the next 11 years until God called him home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Mashburn; one son, Michael Ray Mashburn, III; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Carolyn Mashburn; and maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Gelena Perrin. He was also preceded by his pet corn snake that supposedly had passed, but may have just been an escape artist that came up missing.
He is survived by his loving and supportive wife, April Mashburn of Lawrenceburg, TN; his mother, Cathy Atwell of Lawrenceburg, TN; special mother, Janice Mashburn of Lawrenceburg, TN; one sister, Melissa Curtis (Matt) of Summertown, TN; three brothers, Josh Staggs (Lexi), Joe Mashburn (Nina), and Nick Mashburn (Desiree), all of Lawrenceburg, TN; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; great-aunt, Dona White of Lexington, AL; and his fur babies, Penelope, Natalie, and Precious.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pulaski Street Church of Christ, NHC Homecare, Hospice Compassus, and special cousin, Chris Gallian for all the love, care, and support during this difficult time.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, December 04, 2022, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Monday, December 05, 2022, with Jacob Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN. The family suggests memorials be made to Toys for Tots.
