Charles Olin James, 92, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022. Charlie was born in Central, South Carolina and was one of Baylus Odie and Mary Elizabeth James’ eight children. He grew up in the mill town of Central, South Carolina and was raised by his loving sister, Evelyn James Crane, after the untimely deaths of his mother and father. After high school, he joined the army and served during the Korean War. He relocated to Huntsville in the late 1950s and worked and raised his family. Charlie retired from Inline Lighting at the age of 80 after a sixty year career in the electrical supply business.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Anna Cox James; two daughters, Sharon James Grubbs (Don) and Connie James Weaver (Steve); his step-children, Kellye McCormick, Grant McCormick, and Anna Hornsby (John); four granddaughters, Danna Alm, Emily Bass (Bradley), Kylie Hughes (Nicholas), Katie Moore; and two step-granddaughters, Laura Fallon (Ben) and Savannah McCormick. He also has four great grandchildren, Ellie Bass, Cole Hughes, Ethan Bass, and Harper Hughes; and three step great grandchildren, Lyla Fallon, James Fallon, and Russell Fallon. He is also survived by his sisters, Norma James Owen, Jeanette James Honea; and a brother, Odie “Shot” James all of South Carolina.

The family is so grateful for Roy Norris who so lovingly cared for Charlie the past several years. We would like to thank Hospice of Alabama for the wonderful and loving care these past weeks.

A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville, AL.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to Kids To Love, or a personal charity of your choice in his memory.
