obituary image Dewey Wayne Doss of New Hope passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. He was born on November 9, 1943, the son of Marvin and Louise Doss.

Dewey grew up the oldest of four children in rural Alabama and made the best of every situation he came across. He excelled in everything from high school football to working on cars to fixing home appliances. After graduating towards the top of his class in high school, he moved across the country to Washington, DC, and worked jobs ranging from fingerprint clerk at the FBI to climbing utility poles in the telephone industry. During this time, he also proudly accepted his country’s call to serve in the US Army and then spent another 35 years as a telephone engineer across all aspects of that industry.

Most of all, Dewey was dedicated to his family and friends. No matter who he met, he was instantly a well-liked friend. Whether he was helping out a neighbor by repairing a car or doting after his grandchildren while fishing on the lake, his kind-hearted spirit was evident in his genuine concern for all those around him. He truly lived out the golden rule of treating others as you want to be treated.

He will be sorely missed by all and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and is survived by his siblings, Ronny, Jerry, and Debbie; children, Cheryl, Wade, and Ward; in-laws, Bert, Grace, and Amy; and grandchildren, Elise, Sophie, Caroline, Ethan, Nolan, Graham, and Timmy.

Visitation will be Friday, November 18, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Todd Gangl officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
