Mr. Clyde Eugene Fowler Mr. Clyde Eugene Fowler, age 75, passed away at Huntsville Hospital Emergency Room on October 31, 2022. Mr. Fowler was a former resident of the Boaz/Albertville area of Marshall County, Alabama but had been a resident of the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home for the past 7 years. He was born July 16, 1947 to Clyde and Julie Izora Black Fowler in Etowah County, Alabama. Mr. Fowler was one of those unique individuals who “never met a stranger.” Anyone he came into contact with rapidly became a friend. Even though Clyde’s physical abilities became challenged he retained his mental sharpness and memory with a unique wit and charm.
Clyde’s wife, Barbara Fowler, preceded Clyde in death. Barbara was originally from Kerrville, Texas so the two of them travelled back and forth between Alabama and Texas quite often. Even though Barbara passed away over 20 years ago, Clyde still arranged to have flowers sent to her gravesite in Texas on her birthday each year. Clyde worked in the manufacturing field. In Alabama he worked in mobile home manufacturing and in Texas he worked in airplane parts and assembly. Mr. Fowler was extremely proud of his military service. He joined the United States Marine Corp November, 1966 and served until November, 1970. He was promoted to corporal and served in Vietnam. While there he was awarded various medals and awards including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 stars, Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Marksman, and RVN Cross of Gallantry w/palm & frame.
Clyde enjoyed life. In his younger years he enjoyed playing backyard football with his younger nieces and nephews. He even broke his arm while doing so. As he got older and more physically challenged he enjoyed watching old TV shows such as Gunsmoke. As a matter of fact, family members recently found a notebook where he had list all the old Gunsmoke episodes he had watched. He also was a fan of Braves Baseball and Alabama Football.
Clyde is survived by a host of nieces and nephew. The family would also like to acknowledge his caregiver and friend at the Veterans Home, Lytrice. He is preceded in death by wife, Barbara Fowler, parents; Clyde and Julie Izora Black Fowler, siblings; Billy Fowler, Willie Fowler, Eural Fowler, Doyle Fowler, Shirley Smith, and Fayenell Cahela.
Services for Mr. Fowler include a visitation with family at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Arab, Alabama on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral service, officiated by Lynn Fowler, will be at 1:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation. Interment will be at Red Apple Cemetery in Boaz, Alabama. Pallbearers will be Mr. Fowler’s nephews.
