John Paul HaycoxJohn Paul Haycox, 80, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, July 21st, 2022, in Athens, AL. Mr. Haycox was born on August 22nd, 1941, to William and Mary Jane Haycox.

Mr. Haycox is survived by his wife Janet S. Haycox of Athens, AL; daughters Robin Smith (Stephen) of Athens, AL and Carolyn Allred (Gregory) of Athens, AL; sister Charlotte Bye (Melvin Glenn) of Wilmington, IL; step-sister Betty Stokes (Bob) of New Albany, IN; sister-in-law Janet M. Haycox of Philadelphia, TN; grandchildren Megan Brousseau (Daniel) of Sunburst, MT, Ryan Smith of Athens, AL, Kaitlin Spry (Blake) of Elkmont, AL, and Tanner Russell of Athens, AL; great-grandchildren Addisyn Spry of Elkmont, AL, Sawyer Spry of Elkmont, AL, and Everly Brousseau of Sunburst, MT; step-grandchildren Victoria Allred (Skyler) of Harvest, AL, Gregory Allred (Madison) of Athens, AL, Madaline Allred (Aaron) of Athens, AL, Samuel Allred of Tampa, FL, Alexander Allred (Lydia) of Mobile, AL, and Kathryn Allred (Elijah) of Tallahassee, FL; and step-great-grandchildren Emory McLin of Athens, AL, Kaine McWilliams of Athens, AL, Capri McWilliams of Athens, AL, Aria Henry of Mobile, AL, Nikolai Allred of Mobile, AL, and Jordan Yeboah of Tallahassee, FL.

Mr. Haycox is preceded in death by William Haycox, Georgia Haycox, Elmo Crump, Mary Crump, John William Haycox, Nathlee Fetz, Fred Fetz, Kenneth Haycox, Terry Haycox, and Nolan Russell.

Funeral services for Mr. Haycox will be Friday, October 7th, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with C.W. Kennedy officiating. Visitation will be Friday, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Gatlin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Smith, Tanner Russell, Steve Smith, Greg Allred, Daniel Brousseau, and Blake Spry.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family at 25874 Caldera Dr., Athens, AL 35613.

Mr. Haycox was born in Morengo, IN, and had four siblings. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1960. In 1960 he also started working at Caterpillar and retired after forty-two years in 2002. He was happily married for sixty-two years. He had three children, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren. His hobbies were drafting, wood working, traveling, and spending time with his family.
