Stephen W. Burcham, 60, of Huntsville, AL passed away on September 16, 2022. Steve was born in Huntsville and graduated from Grissom High School in 1980. Later, he married his high school sweetheart, Cindy Eyestone. Steve went on to earn his degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Alabama Huntsville and later earned his MBA from Auburn University. One of the last things he said was “War Damn Eagle” to the room of family, friends and nurses at UAB Hospital.
Steve worked for 20 years at Chrysler and then eventually retired from Digium as their Vice President of Operations. Steve was always on the move. After receiving a heart transplant in 2012 he was determined to be out of the hospital faster than any of the staff there had ever seen, and he succeeded. A few short months later he even ran a 5K, and his nurses at UAB still use him as an example to encourage new post-transplant recipients. He is remembered as a fun-loving and silly Poppy by his granddaughters and, as he had done with his own three daughters, let them run wild. You could always count on finding him at Rosie’s on Friday night, walking with the ladies around the neighborhood, taking care of his yard, and riding in his Jeep.
When he wasn’t spending time with family and friends, he could be found volunteering in the community. He participated in numerous Habitat for Humanity builds, chaperoned various mission trips with his daughters while they were in the youth group at Asbury in Madison, taught 8th grade boys small group, served on and led many church committees, participated in Leadership 21, volunteered at CASA to assist the elderly and homebound, and welcomed people to the YMCA while he volunteered there.
Steve is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cindy, and his three daughters, Lindsey and Jay Riffel of Houston, TX, Brooke Burcham of St. Louis, MO, and Anna and Jake Morris of Atlanta, GA, two granddaughters, Samantha and Maisie, and one grandson on the way. Steve was loved and will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held at Asbury Church in Madison on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Visitation will be from 10:30AM to 12:00PM and service at 12:00PM.
