Mary Ann Mathis Mary Ann Mathis, age 84, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Columbia, Tennessee.

Mary was born on Christmas Eve in 1937 to the late Richard Nolen and Bessie Mae Henson Nolen in Columbia, Tennessee.

Mary had love and compassion for children. Whether it was at her home or anywhere else, her life’s work has been to inspire the growth of young children. Many say her sweet nature comes from her sweet tooth, from candy to ice cream, Mary loved treating herself to some sugar.

Her warm presence and loving spirit will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Darlene Mathis (Roger) Sparkman; grandchildren: Kasey Mathis (Ricki) Clifton, Elizabeth Sparkman Leggitt, and Jaime Sparkman Pelletier, Alan Hood, and Hunter Mathis; great-granddaughter: Amy Clifton; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby L. Mathis; son: Terry Lee Mathis; grandson: Terry Lee Mathis, Jr.; brother: Richard Nolen, Jr.; sister: Lacy Nolen; sister: Nelly Dugger; brother: Marvin Nolen; brother: Claude Nolen; and sister: Gracie Patterson.

The family will receive friends and family at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM with a service commencing at 2:00 PM. Ms. Mary Mathis will be laid to rest in the Garden of John at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Jason McMeen, Brandon Vaughn, Adison Fitzgerald, and Hunter Fitzgerald. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Viola Baptist Church and Joe Green.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Life Care Center of Columbia for their unconditional care, compassion, and support.
