Margaret Phillips Buchanan Margaret Phillips Buchanan passed August 15 th , 2022, with grace under the care of Shepherd’s
Cove hospice facility with family by her side.
Margaret was born March 20, 1937, in Guntersville, AL. She was a lifelong member of the First
Baptist Church of Guntersville, and she loved the church community, finding love, solace, and
inspiration through fellowship. She also loved her hometown of Guntersville and was very
involved with community promotion and development, founding the Mountain Lakes Visitors
and Conventions Bureau and was active in the Chamber of Commerce for many years, serving
at one time as President. She was a local business owner in the seventies with her clothing
store, The Showoff. At the end of her career years, she was Executive Administrative Assistant
for the Redstone Arsenal office of the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) of the U. S.
Government. She loved her family and family celebrations were always extra special when
Margaret hosted. She loved gardening and landscaping projects, sewing, cooking, had an eye
for fashion and was talented with décor.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Early Byron “Buck”
Buchanan, and brother Royce Lorenzo Phillips. She is survived by her children; son Ivan Teal
(wife Barbara), daughter Jessica Teal (wife Melissa), and son Todd Teal (wife Tish), stepsons
Craig Buchanan (wife Debbie), Dan Buchanan and Chris Buchanan, and grandchildren Erin,
Krystina, Mikel, Jesse, Melia, Raymond, Matt, Beverly, Lindsay, Daniel, and Nino, and 7 great
grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday August 19 th at First Baptist Church in Guntersville, AL with
visitation 11:00 AM -12:00 PM and the service will begin at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Guntersville or Shepherd’s
Cove Albertville, AL
