MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Department of Environmental Management will hold a public hearing
Thursday in Sheffield to allow citizens to comment on the proposed Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR)
permit for the closure of Ash Pond 4 at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Colbert Fossil Plant in Colbert
County.
The hearing will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022, in Sheffield, Alabama 35660 at the Sheffield City
Hall located at 600 N. Montgomery Avenue at 6:00 p.m.
Because of COVID-19, social distancing requirements will be in place for the hearing. All attendees will
be required to wear masks and will be subject to temperature screening prior to entering the hearing
location. Space inside the hearing room will be restricted, each speaker will be assigned a time slot, and
only one speaker will be allowed in the hearing room at a time.
Speakers who preregistered should arrive at their assigned time slots. Interested parties can also
register on site. However, those who preregistered will be called to speak first.
Attendance at the public hearing is not necessary in order to have comments included in the public
hearing record. Written comments will also be considered. The deadline for receiving written
comments is 5 p.m. on August 11. In its final determination on the proposed permit, ADEM will provide
responses to pertinent issues raised.
In order to affect final decisions, comments must offer technically substantial information that is
applicable to the proposed permit.
