oyfully departing this life July 25, 2022, Mary Elizabeth Bland Wallace went to join her Lord and loved ones already in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Vern Wallace, Sr.; parents, William R. Bland and Lessie Endsley Bland; sisters, Verna Bland, Gladys Abbott, Alane Sanders, Opal Hooper, Ruth Larson; and brothers, Leon Bland and Paul Bland.

Survivors include one son, Lt. Col., Retired Roy Vern Wallace, Jr.; two grand-daughters, one grandson and four great-grandchildren, all of Maryland, Virginia and Florida; nephews and nieces, Gene (Jane) Sanders of Huntsville, Janice Harris Sanders (widow of Ron Sanders) of Huntsville, Larry Randall Abbott (Judy) of Fayetteville, TN, Linda Hooper Pflanczer of Huntsville and Dorothy Smith of Texas; a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Wallace and her husband owned and operated Mr. Steak Restaurant on South Memorial Parkway. She was active in many community organizations, serving as an officer or member of the Board of Directors of the Alabama State Restaurant Association, Huntsville Restaurant Association, Alabama Sheriff Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation, Huntsville-Madison County Chambers of Commerce, City of Huntsville Waste Water Management Board, Christian Women’s Club, VBCC Convention ad Bureau Board and the Land Trust of North Alabama. She also served as the first Program Director of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership 2000 Program and was the first Food Director of Panoply at its inception. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for 53 years, serving as its Financial Secretary and Chairman of Contributions for a number of years.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 12:00 to 1:00 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Mrs. Wallace’s name may be made to an organization or a charity of your choice.
