Bessie Hawkins Jackson Bessie Hawkins Jackson, 96, passed away June 19th.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Aubrey (Buddy) Jackson; and infant son Trent Carter Jackson.

Bess was an English teacher at Tanner High School, and librarian at West Limestone High school prior to her retirement in 1985. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Florence State Teachers College and her master’s from Athens State. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers Association, and a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children Kevin (Katie) Jackson and Hollye (Mike) Hatfield); grandchildren Jonathan (Lindsay) Hatfield, Carter (Crystal) Jackson, and Kate (Ryan) Ducker; great-grandchildren Norah Jackson and Reeves Jackson; brother Johnny Hawkins; and grandchildren of the heart Darby Smith Phillips, Moriah Smith Earnest, and Caston Smith.

The services will be at Limestone Chapel in Athens, AL, on Saturday, June 25, with Bro. Ray Blankenship officiating. Visitation begins at 11 a.m., with services starting at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mike Hatfield, Jonathan Hatfield, Carter Jackson, Ryan Ducker, Johnny Hawkins, and Bo Hatfield. Honorary pallbearers are William Newton, Jack Siniard, Mark Stinnett, and Bryant Moss.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John Abrams and the team at Auburn Internal Medicine, the staff at East Alabama Medical Center, and the staff members at Azalea Place and Bethany House.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Salem United Methodist Church in Lester, AL, or your local Hospice or Animal Shelter.
