Bella Donna DePew, known to family and friends as “Susie”, and business associates as “Sue”, passed on June 17, 2022. She was a native of Huntsville and graduated from the original S. R. Butler High School and attended the University of Alabama, Huntsville.

Susie spent her entire career at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. She retired as a Contract Specialist and Purchasing Agent for NASA MSFC’s labs and projects.

Aunt Susie loved to entertain her nieces, nephew, their friends, and neighborhood kids in their younger years. She took her nieces and their friends to NASA picnics, Easter Egg Hunts, and any other event for young children. After her nieces were older, she had a nephew that went to NASA’s picnics, Egg Hungs, and served with her as a “Moon Buggy Race” official, held annually at the Rocket and Space Museum for many years.

Aunt Susie and her high school-aged nephew planned a trip to Europe. They started with his high school’s trip going to Germany and continued on after that week on their own. They visited France, Switzerland, England and Ireland (they wanted to add more but ran out of time) for six weeks.

She also liked having Halloween events every year for the neighborhood children. Her nephew and his friends loved to scare the trick or treaters in the neighborhood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace R. DePew and Eirene Allen DePew, her sister, Mary Teresa DePew, and the love of her life.

Survivors include her sister, Gracie DeVault (Bruce); brother, H.R. DePew, Jr.; two nieces; and a very special nephew.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21 at Green Valley Cemetery in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.

Memorials may be made to Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care
