  Mary Gray SchollianMary Gray Schollian, age 88, of Athens, AL, died Wednesday, June 15th, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Limestone County and was the daughter of the late Roy Guinn Laxson and the late Mary Louise Laxson. She was preceded in death by her first husband of thirty-one years, Euel Dean Gray and her brother, John William Laxson. She is survived by her devoted husband of thirty-eight years, Travis Ray Schollian; her two children Angela Gray Williams (Brad), and Samuel Eugene Gray (Margie); her half sister JoAnn Tate; her five grandchildren: Christianna Thompson, Michelle Rector (Jason), Marguerite Gray Morris (Mason), Samuel Eugene Gray, Jr. and Caroline Nabers Gray; seven stepchildren: Ray Schollian (Trish), Alan Schollian (Donna), Linda Schollian, Patricia Ryel (Richard), Elaine Woolsey (Steve), Randy McKensie (Pat), and Sherry Boyd (Richard); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary lived a full and active life. She attended Birmingham Baptist College receiving her nursing degree. After graduating she began her career at Block and Chandler Hospital in Hartselle, AL. where she became director of nursing. Later she became the Assistant Administrator and ultimately Chief Operating Officer at Athens Limestone Hospital where she was a dedicated administrator for over thirty years.

Throughout her life she was a contributing member of her community, giving her time to Athens First United Methodist Church as a member of the Knitting Ministry. Mary was an accomplished china painter, avid knitter, and loved creating vintage lace work called tatting. Her family and friends will remember her for her bubbly personality, strength of spirit, positive outlook, and tremendous grace.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice of Limestone County for their support at the end of her life. There will be a memorial service at First United Methodist Church, Athens AL, on Saturday, June 18th, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Athens First United Methodist Church, and Hospice of Limestone County.
