Thomas Joseph “TJ” Higgins, 62, of Huntsville, AL passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022. He was born in Charleston, WV in 1959 and was the son of Charles A. Higgins, Sr., and the late Mary Joyce Higgins.

TJ was a Huntsville resident since age 9, making lifelong friends quickly in the neighborhood where he grew up. During summers, he practically lived at Whitesburg Recreation Association where he enjoyed his years on the swim team and as a lifeguard. He graduated Huntsville High School and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, which put him on the path to a career he enjoyed as a software developer and systems analyst. Most of his career was with Intergraph Corporation, and most recently with LiDAR USA where he worked on projects for the U.S. government and its allies.

His love of swimming continued his entire life, joined by other passions: riding motorcycles, the music of Kansas and Rush, Canadian football, and brewing beer and wine, which he freely shared with family and friends. His quick smile, acidic wit, and wide breadth of trivia knowledge will be missed by all who knew him.

TJ is survived by his daughter, Caroline Higgins (Jess Hay) of Austin, TX; his siblings, Marianne Higgins (Bud McLaughlin) of Huntsville, Chuck Higgins (girlfriend Isabela Ramos) of Murfreesboro, TN, James Higgins (Karen) of Huntsville; nephew, Sean Higgins, and niece, Belle Higgins.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Huntsville with a funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Mac Mahon officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery at 2:45 pm. A reception hosted by his siblings will follow at the home of James and Karen Higgins.
