Maudie Garnett – Obituary

Mrs. Maudie Garnett, age 77, of Falkville died Friday February 15, 2013 at her residence. She was born June 22, 1935 in Blount County to Hubert and Hattie Lindsey. Mrs Garnett was one of nine children. At the age of 9 she moved with her family to Jefferson County. Maudie married Clifton Bates at age 16 and had one child, Teresa. Clifton passed away in 1980 and in 1982 Maudie married Bud Garnett, bringing into her family Buds 3 children Ellen, Pamela and Jim. Mrs. Garnett was very active in church and her community. Through the years she invited extended family into her home, as well as fostering many children from Morgan County. Mrs. Garnett along with Bud, did voulenteer work at Falkville Nursing Home, providing Sunday Services for the residences, Maudie and Bud, worked at South Park for many years becoming “Nana and Dado” to the kids and coaches. At the time of her death, Mrs Garnett was a member of Mill Creek Independant Baptist Church. Mrs. Garnett was preceded in death by, Mr. Clifton Bates, Mr. Bud Garnett. By two sisters Imogene Snow and Naomi Lindsey. By a Brother and Sister in Law, Howard and Sarah Hyde. and by two Grandaughters, Megan and Kendra Dougherty.

Funeral Service will be 2:00pm Sunday Fubruary 17, 2013 at Mill Creek Baptist Church. She will lie in state at the Church from 1:00 until 2:00pm. David Hale and Raymond Lindsey will officiate. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Peck Funeral Home will be directing. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00pm at the Funeral Home.

Pallbers will be, Keith Dougherty, Corey Simpson, Jim Garnett, Will Hudson, Alex Nickles and Jason McAbee.

Mrs. Garnett is survived by Daughters Teresa Bates Dougherty (Don), Ellen Garnett Nickles (Lawrence), Pamela Garnett Thompson. Son, Jim Marshall Garnett (Sherry). Grandsons, Keith Dougherty (Whitney), Corey Simpson (Christy), Cody Simpson (Jodi), Alex Nickles, Will Hudson. Grandaughter, Gracie Garnett, Great Grandsons, Kannon Dougherty, Gavin Dougherty and Sam Simpson.

The Family would like to express Special Thanks to HGA and Hospice of the Valley for the Loving care given during Nana’s illness.
