Eugene “Ted” Coffey

Eugene “Ted” Coffey passed away on May 11, 2022, at the age of 64. Eugene was born on November 18, 1957, in Lawrence County, AL, and baptized and raised at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, AL, with 11 siblings.

Eugene earned a bachelor’s degree from Alabama State University and began his career in retail sales management, working in Alabama, Maryland, Ohio, and Michigan before settling with his family in New Orleans.

Eugene was called to the ministry at the age of 45, first as a deacon at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church (New Orleans) and later as a minister at Franklin Ave. and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church (Mobile, AL).

Preceded in death by his parents the Rev. Ervin Coffey, Sr., and Beatrice Torain Coffey; and siblings Laura Birgan McAfee, the Rev. Juanita Coffey, and the Rev. Ervin Coffey, Jr.

Eugene leaves to cherish his memory: wife Anita and children Phillip and Courtney. Also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, for 10:00 a.m. at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, 8282 I-10 Service Rd., New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., Pastor Johnell Thomas officiating. A live stream of the service will be available at www.franklinabc.com.

The family will receive friend from 10:30 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Reynolds Funeral Home in Decatur, AL. Interment and Graveside Service will follow at noon at Sterrs Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, the family requests that all attendees wear a face mask.
