SHEFFIELD-The Tennessee Valley Art Association is looking for the best choirs in the Shoals to perform in this summer’s Ritz Gospel Showcase. Three selected choirs will perform in two back-to-back performances on July 23 at the Ritz Theatre as part of the W.C. Handy Music Festival. The choirs will also share equally in 50% of the gross ticket sales–potentially $2500 for each choir. To apply, choirs should fill out the entry form and submit a video audition at tennesseevalleyarts.org no later than Friday, May 20.

“We are excited to bring this new event to audiences in the Shoals this summer,” said Christi Britten, the executive director for the art association. “We’re also thrilled to support local choirs by providing them with a new performance venue and helping them earn funds to support their programs.”

There is no fee for choirs to enter. Choirs will submit a video of one song. Videos may be professionally shot or taken on phones, as long as the audio is of good, clear quality. Due to space limitations of The Ritz stage, choirs performing in the Ritz Gospel Showcase will be limited to 50 members or fewer.

This new event is part of the Tennessee Valley Art Association’s mission to celebrate and support artistic expression in all its forms, according to Britten.
