UPDATE-Double Homicide In Pisgah, Alabama One Suspect Arrested;Charged With Murder Of His Father And Brother

UPDATE-Based on preliminary results from an autopsy conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, defendant Matthew Edward GARREN  has been charged with a second count of Murder.  Matthew GARREN was initially arrested on 4/30/22 and charged with one count of MURDER stemming from the shooting death of his brother Christopher GARREN.   The autopsy results confirmed that GARREN also shot and killed his father HORACE “Bimbo” GARREN.  Matthew GARREN remains in the Jackson County Jail.  ~Jackson County Sheriff’s Department

PISGAH, AL-The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement concerning a double homicide and the arrest of one suspect:

“On Saturday April 30, 2022 at approximately 2:30 P.M.  Deputies of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on County Road 354, Pisgah, AL.   Initially this shooting was reported to have happened DeKalb County but it was later determined to have occurred in Jackson County.  Upon arrival, Deputies found two male victims, Horace “Bimbo” GARREN age 68 of Pisgah, AL and Christopher Horace GARREN age 44 of Pisgah, AL. who had been apparently shot and killed in the back yard of the residence.  The suspect, Matthew Edward GARREN, fled the scene and was later located by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office helicopter in a wooded area a distance from the residence.  DeKalb County Deputies soon detained Matthew Edward GARREN and returned him the residence.   

As a result of the initial investigation Matthew Edward GARREN age 33 of Pisgah, AL. was arrested and charged with Murder.  GARREN remains in the Jackson County Jail and bond has not yet been set on the Murder charge.  GARREN was also charged with two outstanding misdemeanor charges stemming from prior traffic related offenses. 

Pending the results of an autopsy additional charges may be filed against Matthew GARREN.

Note that both victims and the suspect were related.”
