Helen Mae Chamblee Helen Mae (Davis) Chamblee was born May 3rd, 1934 in Burnsville, Mississippi. She moved to Alabama as a small child and grew up primarily in Hamilton, Alabama with her parents, Ira and Lillie (Taylor), and eight siblings: Gordan, Nova, Geneva, Opal, Iva, Elizabeth, Syble and Billie. She attended Florence State Teachers College in Florence, Alabama.

Helen moved up north as a young woman, and eventually married William Hampton Chamblee, of Hodges, Alabama. Together they raised four children: Debra (Keith) Kuster, Beverly (Gabe) Kelley, Leah Chamblee, and Lillian (Jamie) Thompson. She was a dearest Mamo of 13 grandchildren (Laura, Valerie, William, Esther, Hank (Hannah), Charity, John, Caleb, Adam, Carissa, Seth, Mikayla, Arianna) and loving great-grandmother of 9 (Linden, Hampton, Henrik, Judah, Lincoln, Graham, Forrest, Torben, and Winslet).

She was passionate about quilting and fabric arts, and was an avid reader and fan of westerns. She enjoyed gardening, birds, cooking and taking care of her extended family. Helen was a dedicated volunteer at her church, Gilead Baptist, helping out with AWANA and Kaboom programs for youth.

Together with her husband, Hamp, she was an entrepreneur and ran a successful local sewing machine and notions business called U-Sew for 45 years. Through U-Sew she traveled the world, and often brought her family along with her on special trips.

Helen passed away on March 17, 2022 at the age 87 in Taylor, Michigan. Helen will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Visitation at Mount Olive Baptist Church 14811 Hwy 172, Hackleburg, AL from 11:00am to 2:00pm.  Services will begin at 2:00pm.

Interment will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Hackleburg, AL.
