Alvie Mears, 73 years old of Russellville, AL. passed away February 7, 2022.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9, 2022, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Akins Funeral Home, Russellville, AL. The funeral service will be Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 2:00 pm with Bro. Trevor Hallmark officiating. Burial will be in Gargis Cemetery.

Alvie was an avid Alabama Fan.

He was born December 9, 1948, in Lawrence County, AL.

Alvie was preceded in death by his parents, William “Slick” and Erlene Mears; his brothers, Hershel Mears and Charles Mears; his sister, Gertha Lee Cooke; and his son-in-laws, Mike Atkins and Donnie Johnson.

He is survived by his children, Treisa Ayers (Wade) of Russellville, AL, Chris Mears (Jana) of Russellville, AL, April “Felicia” Johnson of Barton, AL, and Stephanie “Mandy” Nelms (Jessie) of Mt. Hope, AL; his siblings, Ralph Odie Mears, Mary Frances Leeth, and James Craford Mears; his grandchildren, Courtney Terry (Chase), D.J. Atkins (Jordan), Jennifer McDowell (Alex), Deana Mears, Matthew Mears, Katelin Mears,  Dakota Nelms, Ashley Nelms, Jacob Nelms, Hannah Nelms, Bradley Reed, Keria Reed; his twelve great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be D.J. Atkins, Dakota Nelms, Bradley Reed, Alex McDowell, Austin Lane, and Cody Bishop.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Matthew Mears and Jacob Nelms.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his best friend from First grade, David Vandiver and the ladies at the store; Kathy, Vicki, and Karen.

Akins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
