Heaven gained an angel today. Maxine Lay Thornton, also known as Granny, and loved by so many received her wings on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. We would like to thank Kindred Hospice for all their care and support. They went above and beyond in their care and compassion.
Maxine was preceded in death by her Parents-Tress and Lola Bell Lay; Husband-William P. Thornton; Sisters-Mavis Allred, Verlene Barton, Hazel Moore and Minnie Gaddy; Brothers-Cletus Lay, Floyd Lay, Dale Lay and Billy Lay.
She is survived by her Daughters-Brenda Thornton Cates and Janice Thornton Collins; Seven grandchildren-Suzie Walton (Chris), Sandi Banks Taylor (Danny), Charlie Collins, Jimmy Collins (Amanda), David Spencer Cates (Megan), Carla Mosley (John) and Brannon Cates; Sister-Carol Jean Prickett; Fourteen great grandchildren; A host of nieces and nephews; Special niece-Patsy Cook and family friend Darwin Kilgore.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Walker Memory Gardens. Jeff Allred will officiate.
