brilliant alMONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant to help bring new industry to the town of Brilliant.

The grant will enable the town to replace sewer lines and equipment at the site of the former Brilliant Homes trailer plant building at 11061 Alabama Highway 129. Stone Canyon Cabins, a company that produces manufactured buildings, purchased the site recently where it plans to open a plant employing 20 workers.

Because the building has been vacant since the early 1990s, town officials say the old sewer system is beyond repair due to age and extensive damage. Repairs are needed to prevent wastewater runoff from flowing into Bostic Creek, causing significant health and environmental concerns.

“Providing jobs for Alabamians is a priority of my administration, and our team is eager to assist whenever possible,” Bentley said. “I am pleased to help Marion County residents get this facility ready for a new company and new jobs.”

The project will include installation of new sewer lines, manholes and a lift station for pumping wastewater into the sewer at the site. The upgrades also will benefit other businesses near the site at the intersection of Alabama Highway 129 and Main Street.

The Alabama Department of Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. ADECA administers an array of programs that support law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.

Bentley informed Mayor Perry Franks that the grant had been approved.
